Kurnia Kusumaningrum
Committee Member
Instilling lifelong love for music in all her students has been the focus of Kurnia’s practice as a conductor – music educator – pianist and singer. She considers herself a late bloomer in her own musical journey, and this gives her the empathy and patience that music learning may not come as easy for everyone.
She is fortunate to be trained under Assoc Prof Albert Tiu (Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music), Ms Jeong Ae Ree (founder of New Opera Singapore), Ms Julie Tan (Music Pedagogy), Nelson Kwei, Dr Wong Su Sun, and Ms Jennifer Tham (Singapore Youth Choir, now known as Singapore Ensemble Singers).
Her vocal students has performed and won awards locally and internationally. Their achievements include solo voice performance in National Day Parade 2019, and National Day Theme Song 2019, ChildAid 2018-2022, regular solo performances at Esplanade Concourse, Marina Bay Sands Theatre production of The Sound of Music (2022) and Evita (2017).
Her students also nabbed leading roles in Singapore American School production of Addams Family (2023), Music Man Jr (2022), Beauty and The Beast (2019) and Shrek (2018).
She is currently the Choir Director of Lakeside Primary, Fuchun Primary, and De La Salle School.
